Aeronautical Data Management

Information, both internal and external to the AIS environment, which is received, analyzed and processed by the AIS organisation generally comes from a multitude of sources. Duplication of data and AIS efforts is avoided since the data is analysed and entered into the database only once and productivity is increased by virtue of the data being instantly available to all AIS personnel.

IDS provides some basic tools for AeroDB data insertion and maintenance (extracting, updating, deleting). The data temporality is maintained, and strong rule-checking instruments avoid unwanted errors.

In order to speed up the data insertion process into the AeroDB, IDS recommends the us of its Geographic Feature Manager (GFeaMan). GFeaMan makes use of a powerful GeoMedia GIS visual environment for easy identification of features and locations, making insertion errors virtually absent. Major GFeaMan features are:

• Data maintenance with a visual, spatial interface
• Spatial/relational/sequential verification of data
• Temporal data management
• Built on extremely flexible relational database technology
