RADIO NAVIGATION PERFORMANCE INSPECTION

Interference with ATC Radar systems and electronic Navigation Aids can pose a significant threat to the efficiency and safety of aircraft operations.

IDS engineers are able to model and inspect the effect of terrain, buildings, obstacles and interfering radio systems on the electromagnetic propagation of Navigation aids such as ATC radios systems, VOR, DME, ILS, ATC Radar, MLat and GPS systems to the same standard as a commissioning (or periodical) flight inspection.

This inspection can:

• Present the aviation authority with the optimal site to locate new ATC Communication systems, navigation aid or ATC Radar that will deliver the required signal performance;
• Evaluate the impact of new obstruction proposals on the electromagnetic signal performance of existing  navigation facilities and suggest better siting locations if interference is found to be significant;
• Analyse the optimum layout of new airports, airport upgrades and/or runway extensions;
• Assess the impact of nearby or remote Wind Farm  power generation turbines on radio and radar systems; and
• Show Primary and Secondary surveillance radar coverage areas and radar maps.
